- How
did we get where we are today? Background information on Tami & Marvin
Johnson...
-
- Tami
Johnson
-
- Tami has been
an avid Morgan enthusiast since the age of 16 when she purchased her first
Morgan. Her pre-college jobs included several years as a groom at Joe Dunville
Stables, a top Michigan show barn, followed by a year with Doris Ryan and
Allan Rutledge at Irish Lane Farm after her graduation from William Woods
University in 1980 with a B.S. in Business Administration, a major in Equestrian
Science and minors in Art and English.
-
- Tami's "Real
World" Advertising Jobs have included:
- Account Supervisor/Vice
President of Cornerstone Marketing, handling the Anheuser-Busch Wholesale
Operations Divisions and Kellogg Young Adult Market accounts, as well as others.
- Advertising
Coordinator for the In-House Advertising Department at St. Louis Music, manufacturers
of Crate and Ampeg amplifier lines, Alvarez Guitars and Knilling String Instruments.
- Digital Production

in St. Louis, where she was in charge of all things in Digital Production,
including quality control, print and film buying and staff.
-
- Additionally,
Tami is a long time admirer of the Morgan Horse, having owned Morgans for
over 35 years and a breeder for over 20 years:
- Breeder of
World Champions Another World and Noteworthy, as well as their full sister,
the good producer Only Forever, and in hand and performance champion and Regional Champion sire, Shanghai. An amateur trainer, she also starts all of
her own horses and frequently shows them in hand, sometimes partnering with
trainer friends on the lead.

combination of marketing/advertising experience and Morgan Horse involvement
makes her a unique entity to our industry. Her knowledge of bloodlines and
history is extensive and her collection of reference materials and sources
is equally as far-reaching.

What
Marvin Does:
-
-
- Tami and Marvin
work closely together on many client projects. Marvin comes from an extensive
background as a Creative Director for several different advertising or promotional
agencies in the St. Louis area. Functionally, for Masterworks, he is an advertising
copywriter as well as occassional designer and video producer.
-
- An advertising
copywriter:
- Develops creative
strategies for clients (Who is my target market? How will I reach these people?
How will I create the desired behavior?)
- Develops the
"concept" for the ad. (Show frogs hanging out at a swamp talking about Budweiser)
- Composes the
"copy," for the ad, which is the written or spoken word that appears in the
ad.
- Additionally,
Marvin has performed these functions:
- Agency Producer
of Broadcast Television and Radio (supervising film shoots and recording sessions,
editing TV and radio spots)
- Art Director
(someone who designs advertising layouts)
- Marvin is also
very experienced in another offshoot of Advertising, Sales Promotion. Sales
Promotion differs from advertising in that you are specifically trying to
create sales in a defined time period or geographical area,
as opposed to building a brand's image. Sale Promotion uses more "tactics,"
ways of approaching the consumer that create an immediate action and result
in a sale. Examples of tactics are:
- Discounts
- Buy One Get
One
- Sweepstakes
(enter and win)
- Continuity
(collect a set by getting one piece discounted/free with purchase)
- Others
-
- In what we
call "The Real World" of advertising, Marvin would be a Copywriter, but he
might also be known as a "Concepter," a "Big Idea Guy" or a "Creative Strategist."
His full-time job is Partner/Creative Director at Wildhorse
Creative LLC, Washington, Missouri.
